"Nor have I ever been able to disassociate people or stories from their settings, the 'background.' If character is destiny, so to, I believe, is terrain."

What It's About - With the permission of the owners or stewards of historic sites (mostly) in Jefferson County, I harvest some of the wood when a mature tree falls or must be taken down (or old architectural or structural wood becomes available) and craft bowls, vessels and other objects from that wood, including them in a series named for the historic place. Thus far, I have collaborated in this manner with over 40 historic sites in Jefferson County alone, along with exciting sites in other places (see listing below). In a few cases the trees involved in this series represent actual Civil War "witness" wood, as that term is commonly understood; HOWEVER, in most instances the trees are simply downed mature specimens whose interest for me is the fact that they grew and died on a site of significant historic interest.
